So one thing I get asked by some people when they see that I own a Cube is "why didn't you get an xB or a Soul?" Well the xB part is simple, my father owns one and I never cared enough to own one. It's fine for what it is but there's a lot of really low quality materials and general blandness in it. But this post isn't for me to rip on the xB. It's for me to rip on the Soul.

OK not really, the Soul is also a decent car. But it feels so big. It really isn't much bigger than my Cube but sitting inside, it feels like a big car. Which is odd because the interior is not particularly spacious when compared to the Cube. I test drove both engine variants of the Soul though and the 2.0 is pretty quick. I believe it's the fastest of the group (Soul/xB/Cube) but that means fuel economy is sacrificed and, while I was only doing a test drive, the average MPG readout was only displaying 20 which is kinda crap for city MPGs. The 1.6 Litre engine feels on par with the xB but only gets the same kind of MPGs (25-27ish) which is still not brilliant for a small city car. The ride, as is with most current Korean cars, was harsh. It did not absorb bumps well at all. My ass absorbed the bumps better than the Souls suspension did.

A brief on the Element - It's just too big. It's not much of a city car and I don't see why people try to compare it to the XB/Soul/Cube. Sure it's boxy but it's more rugged (looking at least) and SUV like than the other 3. I do find the Element with color matched body cladding to be a very attractive vehicle and a likely candidate for when the day that I need a bigger car comes.

Have my Cube parked next to a Soul:

And a Fit ( The Fit was really high up on my list actually, another very nice car for its price point):

I've used this picture before, but in my mind the element is perfect...

Kinja'd!!!

I'm not sure it was ever marketed as a "city car" though

I had a cube for about 9 months. I got a lot of looks in it, and most people made fun of the car saying it looked like a clown car. The car has a TON of room in it, particularly if you remove the rear seat, which isn't all that difficult at all. I got fairly ok gas mileage in it (high 20's).

The big reason I got rid of it was that it was like driving a sofa. The CVT in mine (2012) was just very boring. I KNOW I should have gotten the manual, but given that my wife would occasionally drive the vehicle and steadfastly refuses to learn how to drive a manual, I was left with no other option. I miss having so much room, but it ultimately just wasn't the car for me.

If you wan't a place to get some decent seat covers, look up a company called clazzio. They're pretty cheap and their fake leather is pretty darn convincing.

It wasn't, which is why I find it odd that people try to throw it in the ring with the xB/Cube/Soul/other small, square city cars. I do really like those Elements though.
